Performance Enhancement Considering the number of professional and competitive athletes I treat in my practice, I realized it was imperative to expand my knowledge beyond basic anatomy and physiology. If I was truly going to help improve athletic performance I needed to deepen my understanding of human movement and postural assessment. In addition to college coursework in Sports Medicine and Nutrition, I have completed the Performance Enhancement Specialist certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Frequently when an athlete comes in to see me for the first time they ask if I participate in their sport. Although I lead an active lifestyle, it would not be realistic for me to have first-hand knowledge of all sports. By having an in-depth understanding body mechanics and muscle origin and insertion I am able to assess a clients movement to determine the cause of the pain or restriction. The Performance Enhancement Specialist certification also affords me the ability to uncover any muscle imbalances and suggest strengthening exercises and/or stretches to correct the problem. If you're serious about improving your performance then I urge you to consider a comprehensive approach to your training and recovery program. To schedule an initial assessment, contact Shantel at 805 459 0439 or info@bodycenteredtherapy.biz.
